Structure and Career
Structure of the ScienceCampus
Our governance structure is designed to ensure transparent use of resources and to enables all participating scientists to contribute effectively. The central element of the Campus is the Executive Board, consisting of the Board of Directors (BoD, with one representative from each institute and two from the University of Potsdam, UP) and the Steering Committee (SC). An equal number of members is elected from the PIs and from Early Career Researchers (ECRs, consisting of postdocs and PhD students). The BoD reports to the SC, and the SC monitors the work of the BoD, intervening in case of problems or difficulties.
The Board of Directors consists of Christoph Pfrommer (AIP, Speaker of the ScienceCampus), Tim Dietrich (UP, Speaker of the ScienceCampus), Karoline Wiesner (UP), Anders Levermann (PIK), and Matthias Liero (WIAS).
Given the importance of working interdisciplinarily within the Campus, the Executive Board will also monitor if and to what extent the outlined crosslinks in the project description are employed. The Executive Board is supported by an expert Scientific Advisory Board (Nils Andersson, University of Southampton; Sue Brenner, Louisiana State University; Ben Marzeion, University Bremen; Francesca Pianosi, University of Bristol; Volker Springel, Max-Planck-Institute for Astrophysics Garching), providing feedback regarding the scientific work and scope. For the strategic development, the Local Advisory Board (consisting of Jürgen Kropp, Deputy Department Chair PIK; Katja Poppenhäger, Director AIP; Isabell Wartenburger, Vice President Uni Potsdam) will monitor the development of the Campus and will provide advice for future impulses. The work is coordinated by the designated coordinator, reporting to the Executive Board.
An elected diversity officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the ScienceCampus' diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategies. Furthermore, in case of scientific misbehaviour, each Campus member can consult an Ombudsperson who will be elected from the group of PIs.
